This week we are introducing Laciey Eidson, Human-Centered Designer and Eli Hovey, Legal Innovator.
Laciey Eidson
How did you get into legal tech?
I was going to school for an IT Tech and Support Certification and I was getting help paying my bills from the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless. They introduced me to Joseph Schieffer who was starting a Legal Tech company and wanted to take on an intern. I interned for two months and became the first employee at A2J Tech.
Why is access to justice important to you?
I went through some incredibly difficult legal situations as a single mother dealing with domestic violence and it’s important to me to be able to pay it forward for all the help I received.
If you weren’t working for A2J Tech, what would you be doing?
I believe I’d be in customer service somewhere.

Westminster, CO.
A2J Tech does a weekly employee trivia! What topic would you be best at?
Pop Culture is my JAM! I know way too much about pop culture.
What’s your favorite holiday recipe?
My mom and aunt used to make this Cherry Mash and I LOVE IT!
Do you have any pets?
Twyla, Belisia (Belly Jelly), Willow (cat) and Ranboo (ball python).
What is your favorite book or movie?
I couldn’t possibly give a favorite book, but I love romance novels and paranormal romance novels. Favorite movies are Willow, Dazed and Confused and Almost Famous.
What do you listen to while working remotely?
Audiobooks or 90’s and 2000’s pop, hip hop and rock.
What’s one place you’d really like to visit?
Scotland. I love books about The Highlands and they sound so amazing. I’m also a big fan of the accents.
What’s a surprising fact about you?
I have an almost 17-year-old daughter and a pet ball python.

Eli Hovey
How did you get into legal tech?
I got into legal tech through my externship search as a law student. I was looking to integrate my legal knowledge with my former background in web development and found A2J to be a perfect combination of my interests. My primary introduction to legal tech was through document automation, primarily working with court forms in order to make the judicial process smoother and more accessible to the community at large.
Why is access to justice important to you?
Access to justice is important to me because I see individuals around me who lack legal representation and oftentimes cannot afford an attorney. Nobody should have to go through a difficult legal battle alone, and being able to create automated forms helps me feel a sense of sustainability for the future for anyone in need of legal help.
If you weren’t working for A2J Tech, what would you be doing?
I would still be a law student! I may be working for a different company doing legal work, but I still have a year or so left of school so I would be swamped with textbooks.

I live in the Denver Metro Area and enjoy working with Joseph and Laciey in the office on a regular basis.

Something to do with sports or music probably.
What’s your favorite holiday recipe?
Christmas cookies or brownies.
Do you have any pets?
Unfortunately, no.
What is your favorite book or movie?
The Great Gatsby is my favorite book, and my favorite movie is probably Inception.
What do you listen to while working remotely?
EDM usually, I’ve been into tech house and melodic dubstep recently.
What’s one place you’d really like to visit?
The Dominican Republic or Brasil.
What’s a surprising fact about you?
I am a former professional beatboxer (I am featured on 3 different albums on Spotify over my 5-year career).
