Legal Aid of Nebraska identified the need to improve efficiency, streamline processes, and enhance client services. In 2025, Legal Aid of Nebraska partnered with A2J Tech to create a more accessible, uniform, and efficient intake system.
Alongside a detailed intake process assessment, Legal Aid of Nebraska wanted to understand the broader civil legal landscape in Nebraska. The goal was to understand how the organization fits within the state's ecosystem, where gaps and opportunities exist, and what contextual factors should inform strategic decisions going forward.
Legal Aid of Nebraska needed a clear and current picture of the state's civil legal landscape. The Environmental Scan offered an opportunity to fill in that picture with rich and relevant data and detail.
A2J Tech worked closely with Legal Aid of Nebraska and its partners to map Nebrasksa’s civil legal ecosystem, identify gaps and unmet needs, and highlight what was already working well across the state.
A2J Tech's Environmental Scan combined desk research, stakeholder interviews, and quantitative analysis of nearly 10,000 Legal Aid of Nebraska intake records. The research identified relationship-based collaboration as a core strength of Nebraska's civil legal ecosystem, demonstrating specifically how Legal Aid of Nebraska serves as a central and trusted partner for organizations across the state. The research also used triangulation to diagnose significant gaps in family law, immigration services, and rural access.
The Environmental Scan produced actionable recommendations in four areas: expanding centralized intake, increasing limited scope representation, reducing barriers to pro bono engagement, and leveraging technology to support coordination across organizations. Together, these findings gave Legal Aid of Nebraska a grounded, evidence-based foundation for its strategic planning and intake improvement efforts.
